The face of Agustín Lucas Mariani It was replicated on social networks long before the United States Justice ordered his arrest for the crime of Delfina Pan, the Argentine designer murdered last Monday in Miami Beach.
The 21-year-old defendant is still in the Jackson Memorial Hospital after self-inflicted several stab wounds to his torso. He did it after murdering the 28-year-old girl and this is precisely one of the points that Florida still seeks to elucidate: to know if he sought an excuse to get away with the act or if he tried to commit suicide after the femicide.

The questions surrounding the hours leading up to the fateful outcome are many. But Justice needs -in the first place- to reconstruct an unfinished profile. An X-ray of the man who deleted his social networks and left all WhatsApp groups before heading to the condo where Delfina lived and committing the brutal crime.
Mariani is a native of Bella Vista, San Miguel district, Buenos Aires province. After finishing high school, he enrolled in the Aeronautical Professional Training Institute (IFPA). There he completed the course of cabin crew. On his LinkedIn profile – it was also deleted – he said: “Looking to enter the aeronautical industry.”
His arrival in the United States is one of the many unknowns. Mariani met Delfina at the Kansas restaurant chain, where they shared several hours of work and where, according to the victim’s friends, the defendant became obsessed with her. Investigators believe he had been harassing her for months.
The hours before Delfina Pan’s crime
On November 29, at approximately 6:26 p.m., the Miami Beach Police and Fire Communication Center received two phone calls alerting them to what had happened on 73rd Street, at the height of Harding Avenue. In the place was the body of Delfina, with wounds in the abdomen and neck. At his side Mariani, also injured, with his shirt full of blood.
That day, Delfina was summoned to work between 11:30 and 18:00. Mariani, on the other hand, was requested in a double shift: from 11:30 to 23:30. However, he withdrew from the premises after Delfina did. The manager of the restaurant assured that Mariani left the bar without prior notice and that later they found the lack of one of the largest knives in the kitchen.
This point is key to knowing whether or not there was premeditation in the event. The main hypothesis is that Mariani once again harassed Delfina at work and, given the young woman’s refusal to have any other type of link with him, He chased her home and then murdered her.

One of the residents of the condominium stated that Mariani arrived at the door of the home and asked him to go up to her apartment to talk. Delfina, to meet her, refused. It was at that moment that he decided to take the knife and stab her to death. They were both taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Harassment, obsession, and a desperate request
Delfina’s friends explained to TN that Mariani was obsessed with her from the beginning. Much more when he declared his “love” and Delfina replied that she was not interested in having a relationship other than work. “He called her constantly, he didn’t leave her alone. He harassed her, followed her, wanted to be with her at all costs “A friend of the victim revealed to this medium, who preferred to keep her name safe.
Hendy, another very close friend of the graphic designer, also got to know Mariani at the same place: “I started working and he entered a week later. This was at the end of January of this year. Then I left and came back in June, I worked two more weeks and met Delfi. Since he entered, he had a strange profile. He was very quiet, he did not meet eyes when he spoke”.
“My last day we all went out to dance to celebrate. I was dancing with a partner and he supported me from behind. He didn’t even ask me or anything – he just grabbed me to dance. I let go, I ran him off without violence, and he reacted very badly. He slapped the air and threw the glass at me. Luckily it was the last time I saw him ”, the young woman recalled.
“When I worked with them they had no relationship. Knowing the profiles of the two, I do not think there was a link. She was very confident, she had a lot of personality. They were not going to pass it over, “Hendy completed.
Detectives investigating the incident confirmed that Mariani, despite remaining under medical care, is out of danger. Faced with repeated questions from the authorities, he chose the same path: remain silent and do not provide any kind of statement. At the moment, only one family member accompanies the detainee to the hospital.
