From today, catalog of recorded music Bob Dylan, which includes all of his albums and the rights to future releases, belong to Sony Music. This news exploded when the music company shared it from its official page.
“This historic agreement, concluded in July 2021, comprises the entirety of Bob Dylan’s recorded work since 1962, beginning with the artist’s self-titled debut album and continuing through 2020 with the critically acclaimed and successful ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways,'” they explained.
I read too: Bruce Springsteen sold his music catalog for $500 million
And not only that, they do not rule out carrying out other projects in the future: “The deal also provides an opportunity for SME to partner with Dylan on additional projects.” Other things that surprised is that this news has not been leaked in the last seven months and that it is only known with the contract closed.

In that same article they state that Bob Dylan is very happy with this agreement: “Columbia Records and Rob Stringer have been nothing but good to me for many, many years and a lot of records. I’m glad all my recordings can stay where they belong”.
Dylan’s story with Columbia Records, owned by Sony, dates back more than 60 years. He signed a contract with the label in 1961, by famed talent scout John Hammond, and Columbia released Dylan’s first self-titled album the following year, which included classic songs and a handful of Dylan originals like “Talkin’ New York” and “Song to Woody.”

Sharing this news, Rob Stringer, Chairman of Sony Music Group, said: “Columbia Records has had a special relationship with Bob Dylan from the beginning of his career and we are tremendously proud and excited to continue growing and evolving our current 60th year of association”.
“Bob is one of music’s greatest icons and an artist of unparalleled genius. The essential impact that he and his recordings continue to have on popular culture is second to none and we are delighted that he is now a permanent member of the Sony Music family.”

Finally, from the company they expressed how significant this fact is: “We are excited to work with Bob and his team to find new ways to make his music available to his many fans today and for future generations.”
For now, the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Dylan, 80, topped the list of Rolling Stone from top 100 songwriters of all time in 2015. His song “Like A Rolling Stone’’ was named by the magazine as the best ever written. In 2016 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature, the only musician to have received this honor.
Tina Turner also sold the rights to her music catalog
Another of the great artists who made headlines for selling their rights to their music catalog was Tina Turner. An interesting repertoire that spans six decades and has classics like “What’s Love Got to Do With It” Y “The Best”, among many others, were sold to BMG.

The agreement maintains that his name, image, and the actions of the artist and the author of his songs, now belong to BMG. Let us remember that the artist sold more than 100 million records.
The record label reported that it will be a partner with Turner in her musical interests, and Warner Music will continue to be the artist’s record company. “His musical journey inspired to hundreds of millions of people around the world and continues to reach new audiences,” BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said in a press release.
