Carlos Vives released his new song “Solo” as a preview of the album Cumbiana IIa job that mixes ancient sounds with technology and current rhythms. This expected work will be released in May. In this song, Carlos Vives experiments with typical sounds of the Colombian Sierra Nevada and a mixture of “Happy rhythms that invite you to dance”.

The message of the song “Solo” by Carlos Vives
Composed by the Colombian and produced by Andrés Leal and Martin Velilla, the theme It’s about heartbreak and how sad a person feels after a painful breakup, and the decision to gamble on loneliness.
A sad but happy topic at the same time. “This song is a tusa, as spite is called in Colombia, but it was also an experiment with bagpipes and the typical sound of the Sierra Nevada. With this song, like what you can expect from the album, It is a journey through different genres in which our culture is connected”, described Carlos Vives.
What does the video for “Solo” represent?
The clip was in charge of the directors Sergio Rodríguez and Carlos Andrés Valencia of Mestiza Films. It was filmed in La Ciénaga de Sevillano, near Santa Marta. Local musicians appear in the images playing typical instruments of the region.
Like the letter of “Solo”, the video shows the suffering of the protagonist after a romantic breakup and decides to leave the place.
“Cumbiana”, a journey to the origins of cumbia
In May 2020, Carlos Vives launched this work where he explored the origins of cumbia. Throughout the 10 songs, the singer has great guest voices like Rubén Blades and Alejandro Sanz.
In Weather in CumbianaCarlos Vives has a varied sound, with fusions of salsa and reggaeton, with the iconic vallenato accordion that became an important part of their sound. The album was recorded in various studios in Colombia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
Vives reviews the history of cumbia in the modern era: the sensitivity of the north of the Colombian coastwhere the genre finds its roots as it fuses its traditional indigenous sound and spirit with modern Latin sounds.
The musician joined Latin figures like Rubén Blades, in “Canción Para Rubén”, plus new voices like jessie reyez in “Sorceress”, and Ziggy Marley in “The Thread”.
In “For Sale”, has the presence of Alejandro Sanz. A romantic song, where the duo exchange verses between reggaeton and cumbia. The message has to do with betting on love and dying trying to obtain it, as Vives sings. The video, directed by Nuno Gomes and filmed in Colombia, is a complete success with millions of views a few days after its premiere.
