Two members of the Yogi sect, accused of sexual and labor exploitation in a downtown hotel in the city of Mar del Plata, assured this Monday that the accusations against him are “a created fiction” and “a rhetorical construction.” In turn, they highlighted that “everything was armed” by the prosecution. Those were his statements before his sentence is known on May 23.
In the last hearing before the Federal Oral Criminal Court 1 (TOF 1) of the seaside resort presents its verdict, Luis Antonio Fanesi and Sinecio Jesús Coronado Acurero They rejected the accusations from the penal unit in which they are serving preventive detention.

The third defendant in the trial, Silvia Cristina Capossiello, will offer her last words before the magistrates on the same day that the notification of the sentence is scheduled.
In relation to the accusations of trafficking, Fanesi said that the facts exposed throughout the 9 months that the process has taken are “a cartoon” and “nonsense nonsense”. He also underlined that a “rhetorical and sophistical discourse” was used to “construct” the accusation, and considered that “Everything that was said was to strengthen that fiction.”

In addition, he maintained that “there is nothing more absurd” than the alleged collection of weapons, and regarding the charges for altering the identity of minors, he indicated that “everything the alleged victims may say makes no sense.”
Coronado Acurero, for his part, said that “all of this is a disguised conviction” and added that “That thing about servitude and exploitation is totally false.”
Although the prosecution requested a sentence of 27 years in prison in his case, considering him the “right hand” of the head of the sect, the accused said that he was never an administrator of anything. “I was always a member of the family. A server”, he expressed.
He also denied the accusations of stockpiling an arsenal, since he assured that he is a “legitimate user” of up to nine weapons.

The cause
The three detainees are accused of “human trafficking for the purpose of sexual and labor exploitation” to the detriment of ten victims, alteration of the identity of seven minors and stockpiling of weapons, as members of a religious organization that had functioned since 1970 in Venezuela and Argentina. That gang was dismantled in July 2018 at its headquarters in the Hotel City, in the heart of Mar del Plata.
Capossiello, partner of Eduardo Nicosia, leader and founder of the sect who died in January 2021, is also charged with sexual abuse.
From the Prosecutor’s Office, in charge of Fabián Celiz and Carlos Fioriti, they requested a sentence of 17 years in prison in the case of Fanesi and 27 for Coronado Acurero.
On May 23 it will be the turn of the last words for Capossiellofor whom the prosecution requested 40 years in prison.
