Although he started working on his team and first steps days (or weeks) ago, Serge Massa will formally assume this Wednesday as Minister of Economy, Productive Development and Agriculture.
President Alberto Fernández -who was fired from the center of management- will take the oath at the Casa Rosada: the new official will be accompanied governorsheads of the CGT, entrepreneursmayors and referents of social movementsfrom a list of 500 guests.
The event is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Bicentennial Museum. In itself, it is a change of scenery: Massa will not swear in the White Room of the Government House, as the now former Minister of Economy Silvina Batakis did less than a month ago, and on Monday the new Secretary of Strategic Affairs, Mercedes Marcó del Pont.

The scenario will be, instead, similar to that marked by the also brief incorporation of Daniel Scioli to the national Cabinet. The outgoing Minister of Productive Development was sworn in before some 300 guests, accompanied by good catering. Would a matter of space: the number of people who will accompany Sergio Massa this Wednesday would not enter the White Room.
As indicated by the new Minister of Economy, it is expected for this Wednesday a call even greater than the one that got Scioli in the middle of last June. The guests will begin to arrive around 16:00 at the Government House. It will be, they promised, an assumption”at high velocity”.
Beyond the current ministersincluding the chief of staff Juan Manzur, and national officials, in Sergio Massa’s entourage expected a very large presence of government governors. The group of Peronist leaders was one of the main political actors in press so that President Alberto Fernández ended up granting the leader of the Renovating Front an important portion of the economic power of the Executive.
On the union side, the leadership of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) was invited. Hector Daer, Carlos Acuna and Pablo Moyano, who also publicly supported the landing of Massa in the Cabinet. In fact, Acuña is a leader of the Renovating Front. The new economy minister has scheduled to meet with the cegetista leadershipinitially next week. The trade union central called a march for next August 17, which has not yet been deactivated.
Sergio Massa himself has already anticipated that, after his oath, he will lead a press conference to inform his first measures. In his environment, they were in charge of letting it be known that one of the axes of his policy will point to -as has been repeated in the past- “replace social plans with work”, which would include a review of programs of assistance.
Among those attending the swearing in of the new Economy Minister will also be representatives of the main official social movements. As confirmed by TN, the referent of the Evita Movement will be in the public, Fernando “Chino” Navarrothe leader of Somos Barrios de Pie, Daniel Menendezand that of the Combative Classist Current, Juan Carlos Alderete.
Graphic support of Cristina and Máximo Kirchner
In the last hours, Sergio Massa received what he had not received Silvina Batakis neither before assuming as Minister of Economy, nor in the three weeks that she held the position: Cristina Kirchner gave an explicit endorsement to the assumption of the new one.
On Monday, the Cristina Kirchner received in her office in the Senate to the leader of the Renovating Front. The official Twitter account of the Upper House – which often functions as his personal account – was responsible for disseminating the photo of the meeting.
On Tuesday, Massa formally resigned from his legislative seat and from the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies. There, before, and during the session, was “affectionate”” with the national deputy of the Frente de Todos and leader of La Cámpora, Maximo Kirchner.
There was no confirmation, until this Tuesday night, about whether the Vice President or her son will be present at the swearing-in of the new minister. Either presence would be a strong political signal.
Sergio Massa and Cristina Kirchner came to a delicate truce. For now, they point out in the cristinista sector, the head of the Senate, in addition to endorsing her appointment, will observe from a distance the first measurements of the new minister to contain the most urgent part of the economic crisis. But – they warn – there is no blank check for the leader of the Renovating Front.
Far from the center of the scene, Alberto Fernández swears in Sergio Massa
Alberto Fernandez seems to have given in the last few hours a sample of what his new role from now on. While in the Casa Rosada they finished working on the preparation of the decree that will establish the new structure of the Executive Power and the functions of the reinforced Ministry of Economy, with the incorporation of the Productive Development and Agriculture portfolios, the president made low-profile tours.
Last week, after Sergio Massa’s appointment was confirmed, officials close to the President predicted little influence on decisions economics, and an attitude fundamentally protocolwith announcements, acts and inaugurations in the interior of the country, and institutional trips abroad.
The forecast would be fulfilled. Without contact with the press, this Monday, Alberto Fernández swore in Mercedes Marcó del Pont and toured works in progress in Jose C. Paz. This Tuesday, he visited a mining project and a tourism enterprise in Catamarca.
Weekend, will travel to Bogota to participate in the inaugural acts of the elected president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.
