Al Hilal, the team of the La Riojan technical director, was playing the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup of Champions of Saudi Arabia against Al-Fateh. He had a decisive match, which was played shortly after the accident.
Emiliano Díaz, Ramón’s other son who works as a field assistant in his coaching staff, found out about the accident before the game, and decided not to tell his father anything until the match was over.
The game passed normally: Al Hilal won 3-1 and nothing seemed to alter Ramón’s joy. However, Emiliano came up after the game and told him what had happened: that his son Michael is hospitalized and that Barbara, his daughter-in-law, had died in the accident. Milo, DT’s grandson, was in the vehicle but was not injured.
Faced with the logical shock, Ramón Díaz decided to travel to Argentina: he will arrive in Buenos Aires on Wednesday to accompany his family in this moment of pain.

The world of football is still shocked by the accident suffered by the family of Ramón Díaz’s son. Michael, a 37-year-old former soccer player from San Lorenzo, broke his leg and his wife died. The driver of the other vehicle also died.
Barbara Oliver died instantly: she was ejected from the vehicle after colliding with a truck. The couple’s son was not injured. The former player requested the transfer to the Federal Capital.
This information was confirmed by the Prosecutor’s Office and it is estimated that the autopsy will be carried out this Wednesday morning at the Mercedes Departmental Medical Corps.
Michael Díaz’s truck invaded a sector of the opposite lane, both vehicles threw themselves on the shoulder and collided head-on. The Prosecutor’s Office of July 9 requested expertise to find out the reason for the invasion of the lane. The son of Ramón Díaz, accused of manslaughter, was detained preventively and will be at the disposal of justice.
