They arrested the last fugitive for the mob attack on Lautaro Cárdenas: he is the son of a former police officer

The last fugitive for the gang attack on Lautaro Cárdenas, a 17-year-old boy who was left in intensive care for the ferocious beating that a group of criminals gave him after leaving a party, was arrested this Saturday night in the town from Buenos Aires by Luis Guillón.

This is Facundo Arrieta, the son of a former police officer who works at the La Salada fair, who was arrested when he was traveling in a car with his family. The arrest warrant was issued just a few days after the event -on February 5-, when the other four defendants for the attack were arrested.

Lautaro Cárdenas’s family had viralized Arrieta’s face through social networks so that whoever could identify him would notify the police authorities. However, from the victim’s environment they linked the difficulty in finding the attacker with his father’s former police job.

Finally, the criminal was detained and in the next few hours he will give an investigative statement before the Federal Investigation Unit (UFI) of Lomas de Zamora, where the case for the ferocious beating is being processed.

Meanwhile, Lautaro made a good recovery in the two months that elapsed since the brutal attack, after undergoing emergency surgery and having been in intensive care for several days. Even the 17-year-old boy started the school year normally after receiving more than three bottles at the beginning of February.

How was the gang attack on Lautaro Cárdenas

The event occurred during the early hours of February 5, when Lautaro -who was 16 years old at the time- and his group of friends were returning from a party in the Buenos Aires town of Villa Centenario, Lomas de Zamora district. There, they were surprised by five criminals who attacked them with the intention of robbing them.

The group of attackers, who were moving aboard a Volkswagen Bora and a New Beetle, intercepted the victims on Cid Guidi de Franc street between Zamora and Sommaruga. Several of Lautaro’s friends managed to escape from the scene, except for Gonzalo, a 15-year-old boy who ended up being the center of the attack and who was robbed of all his personal belongings.

Seeing the situation, Cárdenas – who had been able to escape – returned to the scene to try to help his friend who was being beaten. It was at that moment that he received at least three bottle blows to the head.

The victims managed to escape the attack and took refuge in a retirement center located on Constitución street. The assailants chased them, but were unable to find them.

Until that moment, the young man was lucid and seemed to have gotten it cheap. However, that same Sunday afternoon he fell ill and his family took him to the Boedo Clinic in Lomas de Zamora. According to Alan Cárdenas, the victim’s brother, the doctors who treated him were surprised to see “that he was still alive, since he had 99% blood in his brain, with a skull fracture that touched the artery.”

A few hours later, he was referred to a hospital in Belgrano, where he was in intensive care with a fractured skull and an epidural hematoma. “They operated on him urgently with the worst diagnoses of our lives,” Alan added at the time.

“Today we as a family could be like Fernando’s parents,” denounced his brother at that time, due to the ferocious beating Lautaro had received. However, the recovery was surprisingly fast and today the victim leads a normal life.
