A 49-year-old man left his house to go to work when he was intercepted by a group of criminals. After that, they tried to steal his truck and shot him in the chest. The victim died at the scene and the assailants escaped in his vehicle.
The dramatic episode occurred during the early hours of this Wednesday at the intersection of Olaya and Otamendi streets, in the Buenos Aires town of Pontevedra, Merlo district. The victim was identified as Leonardo Antonio Quinteros.
The man left his home to go to the meat processing plant where he worked, located in La Matanza, when a group of thieves crossed him to steal the blue Amarok truck in which he was traveling.
There they shot him in the chest to steal his vehicle. The victim's girlfriend heard the gunshot and when she came out she found him lying on the floor, seriously injured. Unfortunately, Quinteros died shortly after.
So far the van has not appeared and the criminals are being intensively searched. The case is in the hands of prosecutor Pablo Masferrer of Morón Prosecutor's Office No. 2.
A week ago a similar event shook the southern area of the suburbs. A 9-year-old girl was leaving in her father's car to go to the doctor when a group of criminals intercepted them and shot at the vehicle.
The victim's father, a federal police officer, tried to escape the scene, but it was useless. The assailants shot at the car and wounded Uma, a 9-year-old girl, in the head. The bullet hit the little girl's neck and although she was transferred to the Gandulfo hospital and later to Churruca, she died in the middle of surgery due to the severity of the injuries.
After a week of investigative tasks by the Federal Police together with the Buenos Aires Police, investigators managed to capture the four men involved in the assault and subsequent crime.
