When asked about the possibility of facing River in an eventual match for the 2025 Club World Cup, Álvarez revealed his mixed feelings. “As a fan I wish River the best and I always hope he does well, so it would be great for us to meet there,” he said.
Regarding the world title obtained with Manchester City in 2023, he expressed: “I played in the Club World Cup in 2018 and we couldn't win it. For me it was like revenge and it was a title that City did not have. Having done it in the final with two goals is something very nice that we will not forget together. Historic for the club.”
