In the last few hours, a critical series of forest fires hit several regions of Chile, for which President Gabriel Boric declared a state of emergency due to catastrophe. According to local media, there are more than 9,000 hectares affected and at least 19 dead, including a minor.
The measure will apply specifically to the provinces of Valparaíso and Marga Marga. “We have all our forces deployed to fight the fires in the central and southern areas of the country. I call on you to follow the instructions, be responsible and not expose yourself to unnecessary risks. “Among all of us, we take care of each other,” the president wrote on his X account.

The heat wave followed and the effect of “El Niño” unleashed a series of fires with several active outbreaks that are not yet fully controlled.
“The fatalities that we have confirmed are all from the same sector, Villa Independencia, in the Achupallas sector. So far, 19 people have died, of which 15 have already been identified,” said Carolina Tohá, the Minister of the Interior in a press release.
