The tragic crime of Germán “Tano” Zucarelli caused a deep shock in the Catholic community of Lanús. The 47-year-old altar boy was walking with his aunt when a group of people shot him at point-blank range from a car. She was seriously injured and he died instantly.
Police spokesmen assured that it did not appear to be a homicide during a robbery and at this time different and varied hypotheses are being considered within the investigation. Meanwhile, his community bids him farewell.

“Today violence takes a friend,” Walter Michel, a friend of the victim and faithful attendee at the San Cayetano Parish in the town of Monte Chingolo, in the Buenos Aires district of Lanús, wrote on his social networks.
Michel described the altar boy as “a man of faith, supportive, with virtues and defects like any Christian” and assured that he maintained “a deep faith in Christ and Mary who are surely already receiving him in their arms.”
Germán Zucarelli's friend recalled the frequent pilgrimages to Luján “which were long confessions, discussions, tears of joy at each arrival.” “Teaching each other the rosaries along the way, the encouragement we always gave each other, the talks with occasional pilgrims, the ideas in moments of organization… They seem like simple things, but they will remain burning in my heart,” he added.
“This way you will be engraved in my heart,” Walter said about the altar boy who died last Saturday afternoon. As a farewell, he completed: “Your love for Christ and Mary will not be forgotten, you were another apostle. It is incredible for me to write this, but pray for us, dear Tano.”
From the San Cayetano Parish, of which he was a part as an altar boy, they said goodbye to him with “deep pain and sadness” through a statement on their social networks.
“Dear brothers: with deep pain and sadness, but confident that the Lord does his work in each of us, we inform you that we have to say goodbye to Germán, who left for the Father's house. We ask for prayers for his eternal rest, and for his family, that God grant them the necessary strength to be able to navigate his loss. Once we have the precise information, we will communicate the religious services through the media,” they wrote.

The Nuestra Señora del Rosario Parish also joined the “great pain of the San Cayetano Parish” with a moving statement on social networks.
“From here and with our prayers we accompany the family in this painful moment of Germán Zucarelli's departure. May God our merciful Lord receive you in his arms. We also remember with great affection his time in the choir of this parish during the time of Father Fernando Abraham. A servant of God who has left us today. QDP”, they noted.
