The former president of Chile Sebastián Piñera died this Tuesday while traveling in a helicopter over the community of Lago Ranco, in the Los Ríos Region. The politician was with businessmen and his sister.
In a statement, the Government of Chile explained: “At this time, the fall of a helicopter is reported in the Iliue sector of the Lago Ranco commune; three injuries and one death are preliminarily recorded.”

In addition, they indicated that firefighters, police, SAMU and the Navy are working at the site.
The incident occurred in the Iliue sector and would have occurred around 3:00 p.m. According to what was reported by Chilean media, the former president was traveling back after visiting a businessman friend.

Piñera was president of Chile twice
Sebastián Piñera was born on December 1, 1949 in Santiago, Chile. Piñera was president of Chile in two non-consecutive periods: first, between 2010 and 2014, and then, between 2018 and 2022.

Before his foray into politics, Piñera made his career mainly in the business world, being one of the richest men in Chile due to his investments in various economic sectors, such as finance.
