Starting in January 2024, the City of Buenos Aires implemented a new system for the delivery of Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV) wafers. Until now, a plastic wafer indicating the corresponding expiration date was awarded to each vehicle that passed the inspection.
Now, as confirmed by sources from the Buenos Aires Government, it has been established that “the windshields of cars located in the city will no longer have to replace their VTV wafers.” Instead, a single wafer with a QR code will be used that will contain the vehicle information online and will be automatically updated after each inspection, regardless of whether it is approved or not.

This measure seeks to avoid the accumulation of obsolete wafers on windshields, a situation that was criticized by city drivers, and thus resolve problems related to the shortage of supplies and delays in printing new wafers, a conflict that was latent during 2023 and affected several drivers.
The new wafers are already being delivered in the City of Buenos Aires and there are several cars that circulate through the streets of Buenos Aires with the new system. Furthermore, this wafer will not need to be changed, since the QR will contain all the relevant information of the vehicle.
