Forward Adrián “Maravilla” Martínez agreed to his arrival at Racing Club in this transfer market. The Academy bought him the pass for a sum close to two million dollars. The 31-year-old attacker had an excellent season at Instituto de Córdoba, where he scored 18 goals in 41 games and already demonstrated his credentials at the Avellaneda club: this Friday he scored a hat-trick against San Lorenzo.
But the attacker's story is far from being a “Wonder”, as his nickname, inspired by the great Argentine boxer, Sergio Martínez, with whom he shares a last name, says. The forward did not train in the lower divisions of any club and as a boy he only played for Las Acacias, the institution presided over by his mother.

From the courts to prison: the seven most difficult months of Adrián Martínez
In 2014, Adrián's brother was shot and he was wrongly arrested after being accused of burning and robbing the attacker's house. He spent seven months in jail until his innocence was proven. It was his most difficult moment.
“Its not cute. Many things happen. There is a lot of hunger. You sleep, eat and go to bed in the same place,” she told TN in a note and assured that she thought she would never be able to get out of there.
In prison, the striker took refuge in religion, something that helped him cope with the bad times. ”After getting out of prison he couldn't get a job because he had an injured hand. “I asked God to give me the opportunity to play football and here I am,” he acknowledged in that same interview.
The football history of Adrián Martínez, the Racing forward
Life in prison made him courageous and, when he was released, he decided to try out for Defensores Unidos of the Primera C. The club signed him and he made his official debut at the age of 22.
In 2017 Martínez scored 21 goals with the CADU shirt (in total he scored 34 goals in 73 games) and his performance aroused the interest of Atlanta of the Primera Nacional, a club in which he scored 15 goals in one season and even made him a River.
Its fruits continued. In 2018 Martínez made the jump to Paraguay, where he played for Sol de América and was the team's top scorer in the tournament with 12 goals. In that same year he played for Libertad in the same country and debuted in the Copa Libertadores with a hat-trick against The Strongest of Bolivia. There he won his first title: the Paraguayan Cup, in December of that year.

At the beginning of 2023 he signed with Instituto as a free player and broke it. He was the main figure of Glory in his return to the top category after his relegation in the Clausura 2006. He scored 18 goals in 41 games with the Alta Córdoba team with the addition of scoring against Boca, Independiente and Racing, his new club.
Today, at 31 years old, Maravilla Martínez received the great opportunity to play for one of the greats in Argentina. It will be up to him to continue making history.
