The opposition perceives that the national government is going through the moment of greatest tension since it took office almost two months ago. The failure of the approval of the Omnibus Law revealed the fragility of the agreements in Congress. Days before, Unión por la Patria tried to call a session in the Senate to discuss the DNU deregulating the economy, but Vice President Victoria Villarruel ignored the request.
“Kirchnerism no longer manages the political agenda. “No one violates the Constitution or the regulations of the Senate, we are going to meet with the agreement of all the senators and not just those who violated the institutions,” Villarruel stated from his account from X days ago as a justification. By not moving forward with that request and, without an opinion from the Bicameral Commission, the DNU remains in force without a treatment date.

In addition to Lozano, the presentation is signed by Jonatan Baldiviezo (Observatory of the Right to the City), María Eva Koutsovitis (The City Movement We Are Who We Inhabit It) and Fernando Cabaleiro (Nature of Rights). “Two weeks after the order, he hasn't done it. It obstructs the constitutional mandate and Law No. 26,122 of 'immediate' treatment of the DNU,” the complaint highlights.

On Thursday, February 1, the senators of Unión por la Patria urged Vice President Victoria Villarruel to call a special session to address Decree 70/2023, arguing that “it is at odds with the Constitution.” Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of open and transparent debate on this issue.

At a press conference, the head of the opposition bloc, José Mayans, explained the reasons for the request to hold a meeting: “We have the vision that it is a DNU that is at odds with the National Constitution and that we obviously need to address each of the points it requests. “The Government, do not be afraid of the debate.”
And he stressed: “We do not believe that the method is to close parliament, that is what the Dictatorship does. The first power that closes is the Legislative Power, because they do not want the debate, the noise of parliament and representatives. “That is unacceptable for a republican system of Government.”
Meanwhile, the Decree of Necessity and Urgency is in force. With the exception of the articles subject to judicial intervention, and as long as both chambers of Congress do not reject the project, the provisions of the DNU have already generated changes in different changes, such as rents, social works, medications and credit cards.
