A crowd of faithful fervently awaits the canonization of María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, the nun known as Mama Antula, and gathered during the night of this Saturday in a vigil in front of the basilica of Our Lady of Mercy, where the saints rest. remains of the blessed.
In the atrium of this temple, which is located in the San Nicolás neighborhood, a Santiago del Estero stand was installed. It was in that province where Mama Antula carried out part of his pastoral work during the 18th century.

While the devotees arrived, the technical staff set up the stage and lights for the presentation of musical groups, scheduled for after the mass presided over by the auxiliary bishop of Buenos Aires, Alejandro Giorgi, Télam reported.

Throughout the afternoon, hundreds of people walked along the right nave of the temple to bow in front of the tomb and touch the white marble statue that represents the first saint of Argentina.
The celebration in the basilica of Our Lady of Mercy began around 6 p.m. with a Eucharist and at 7 p.m. the mass began in which Archbishop Giorgi declared: “In this Argentina that urgently needs the graces of God, I believe that “Mama Antula and her testimony is an answer that he gives us at this moment.”

“We Argentinians need to decide to be saints, there are many who do not believe in anything and at this moment we have to take the example of Mama Antula, who always took care of those most in need, women, the poor, the aborigines, or whoever needed it; “God wants to heal Argentina from her wounds and we have to have the tenacity of Mama Antula to respond like her, with humility and with the most concrete gestures,” he added.

After the mass, the musical groups “Umachaki”, “Kerygma”, “La Juanita”, “Dios Familia”, “Wendy Peña” and “Luis Carranza”, among others, animated the community concentrated on Bertolomé Miter Street at 1500.
This Sunday, from 5:30, the community of the basilica will meet at the De La Piedad school, located at Paraná 56, to accompany the televising of the canonization mass presided over in the Vatican by Pope Francis, while at 10.30 a thanksgiving mass will take place in the temple, presided over by the vicar general Gustavo Carrara.
