“Ale, no!” were the last words that María Belén Muñoz said before her partner, Alejandro Albornoz, murdered her with 24 stab wounds in her home in the Buenos Aires town of Berazategui.
The brutal femicide occurred during the early hours of Sunday. The victim had gone to dinner at her sister's house, who lives in the front part of the same lot, and she had stayed to play bingo with her family.

“I'm going to take a shower and go to bed,” said the 33-year-old girl as she left her sister's house located on 115th and 12th streets. Just a few minutes later, relatives began to hear desperate screams. “Hey, no!” the woman repeated.
The family ran to the back of the property – where the couple lived with three boys – and tried to enter, but could not. For that reason they called María Belén's cell phone, but there was no case either. Then, they tried Albornoz's phone.
“Now I can't help you, my time is up,” was the brief and forceful response that the alleged murderer gave to his sister-in-law, who desperately asked him for explanations. A few minutes later, Albornoz himself was the one who called 911 to confess to the crime.
When police arrived at the scene they found Muñoz murdered in the bathtub with multiple stab wounds. They immediately detained the suspect, who provided details about the attack.
Albornoz said that he had changed the bloody clothes he was wearing at the time of the crime and that he had thrown them in a room located at the back of the property next to the knife he used to commit the homicide. All the elements were there.
The autopsy on the victim's body determined that he had 24 stab wounds. Most of them were in the chest area, but there were also in his arms, which confirmed the hypothesis that he tried to defend himself.

María Belén Muñoz had four children. Three were from a previous relationship and the last one she had had with Albornoz, who had been reported for domestic violence by his own mother a few months ago, but had never been accused by the victim.
The alleged murderer was detained at a police headquarters in Berazategui and will be investigated in the next few hours by prosecutor Daniel Ichazo, from the decentralized Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 1 of Berazategui.
Ichazo has already taken testimonial statements from several of the woman's immediate relatives who were present in the house across the street at the time of the crime. The vast majority described Albornoz as a violent person, even with his own family.
