After a year and eight months, the Iranian Venezuelan plane that was held in Ezeiza left the country. He flew to the United States, a country that he had requested be confiscated. The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, had requested that it be returned and questioned the Argentine justice system for making this decision.
The Boeing 747-300 of the Emtrasur airline departed at dawn this Monday. He had been in the country since June 8, 2022. The North American government had requested confiscation due to the irregular transfer by the Iranian airline Mahan Air to the Venezuelan one.
After that, the federal judge, Federico Villena, decided to seize and hand over the aircraft after the approval of the prosecutor, Cecilia Incardona. The magistrate accepted the request of the Court for the District of Columbia, which was the one who requested the seizure because, as they consider, “the plane is subject to confiscation based on violations of the United States export control laws related to the non-transfer authorization of the Mahan Air plane.”
The plane arrived in Argentina on June 6, 2022 transporting Volkswagen auto parts. Two days later he tried to fly to Uruguay to refuel, but the government of that country prevented him from landing.
